Shamirpet Lake is about 30 kilometers north of Hyderabad, or 24 km north of Secunderabad, on the main road to Banglalore. Therefore it is attractive as a destination close to one of India's most bustling cities. Its serene and calm enviroment make it a great place for a quick getaway. Birds recorded at this area ate Asian Openbill, Painted and Woolly - necked storks, spot billed Duck, Montagu's and Eurasian Marsh Harrier, Grey Francolin, Various waders, Ashy Crowned Sparrow lark, Rufous Tailed Lark, Bay backed Shrike, Yellow Eyed and Yellow Billed Babblers, Booted Warblers, Blue throat, Blue rock Thrush, White browed Wagtail, Indian Silverbill and Grey necked Bunting etc....

The Sanjivaya Park at the northern end of Hussain Sagar is also the great destination for birdwatcher where one can have sight of many species of birds.
